Shit shit shit.
Shit on a stick wrapped in shit dipped in shit drizzled with shit with a dash of shit and a pinch of shit.
Actually the situation isn't all that bad. But I had fun thinking up all of the things you can do to shit on sticks.
Good news, I got into the class I really really wanted to get into.
Bad news is the professor of another one of my classes decided to spontaneously drop me. Why? I don't know. I go to class. I bought the TWO nonrefundable readers yesterday. I even pay attention. Take notes and everything.
This means I have to work up the courage to go talk to him tomorrow.
Luckily, he's adorable.

Irony
First of all, Happy Chinese New Year! May you all prosper from an abundance of red envelops. For all those who aren't Chinese New Year celebrants, haha suckers good luck living off the 20 bucks from your grandma for Christmas.
I know this holiday is about something more than money, but as an ABC, that's the part I am most familiar with. The adults gives us "kids" red envelops with cash in it and there is much joy and celebration. And I put "kids" in quotations marks because it's actually those in the second generation who are not yet married. So this includes my 30-something year old cousin. Along with red envelops, he also gets set up with the daughters of friends and friends of friends and friends of friends of friends.
And my mom asks me why I want to get married before thirty. She's the one who likes to set people up.
Secondly, I talked to my major adviser today. The first thing he said to me is "I really think you should take Biology 1a over the summer."
Of course, I am currently taking 2 Molecular Biology courses to satisfy that Bio prerequisite so I DON'T have to take that class. So now, I have to stay during the summer to take a class I was avoiding in the first place.
I was half laughing half crying on the way home.
The moral of this story is, talk to your adviser as soon and as much as possible.
There is good news though. He magically fit a semester of studying abroad into my tentative schedule AND I can do the double major I wanted. Besides, my mom doesn't want me sitting around the house doing nothing over the summer. I am pretty sure it physically pains her. At least I'd have my hands deep inside rat guts instead. Yay.

Week One
Thank God Almighty. I have survived week one of the spring semester and the only traumatizing experience I had was mispronouncing "epidemiology" in my epidemiology class. (eh-puh-dee-mee-AH-lo-gee.) I also touched a human brain today so that was cool. Maybe I'll donate my body to science. The idea of disintegrating in a wooden box six feet underground gives me the willies.
I also discovered Fleet Foxes yesterday. They are amazing. If you are a closet acapella fan, this band is a healthy outlet. It's cool their voices are part of the music and it's not just the same 2 guitars, drums, bass, and lead singer combo. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
For those of you who don't live in the Bay Area, you probably didn't hear too much about Oscar Grant. Oscar Grant was an African American man shot and killed by a BART police officer on New Year's Day. The police officer who shot unarmed Oscar Grant resigned from the BART police force and was recently convicted of murder. It just goes to show that, despite the minority president we currently have in office (Whoo Obama!), racism is still painfully prevalent in our country. It's going to take a lot more than a black president to eradicate it.

Movies
One thing a person does when she is at home from school for a month with nothing to do is watch a shitload of movies. Some old, some new, some borrowed, some...brought. This is my attempt to remember all of them and describe them in 5 words or less.
Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Brilliant. Brad Pitt = God
No Country for Old Men - Mass murderer with bad haircut.
Life Aquatic - Meh.
Penelope - Predictable. Contrived.
The Breakfast Club - Love. Love. Love. Love. Love.
In Bruges - Farrel, Midgets, the whole shebang!
Persepolis - Uhh...I had high expectations.
Chocolat - Love! Made me crave chocolate.
Science of Sleep - Withholding judgment until on hallucinogens.
Burn After Reading - Hah. Satire on American life.
Wanted - Epic. Plot-Twisty. James Mcavoy.
Kung Fu Panda - Adorable. Well written. Well done.
Iron Man - Blockbuster as blockbuster goes.
Smart People - Awful. Waste of Time.
Mama Mia! - Costume Designer was on crack.
Slumdog Millionaire - thismoviewasreallyreallyamazingit
definitelydeservedthebestpicturegoldenglobegoseeit!

Layout
Jesus H. Christ.
I spent the half the day toggling with the layout of this blog. Being a born perfectionist and borderline retarded when it comes to technology, it took several trillion tries to get everything to work out.
But the result brings a tear to my eye.
I googled Jesus H. Christ because I realized I have no idea what the "H" stands for. The answer is, no one knows for sure. However, my favorite explanation is Jesus Haploid Christ...because He's immaculately conceived...so He is not diploid like us human beings.
C'mon I know the bio nerd in you chuckled a little.

The First
When are you too old to blog?
This has been a question that's been on my mind recently. Actually, the more accurate question would be, when am I going to stop? I've had some form of an online journal since middle school. Would this be something I just grow out of once I get a job and/or a family? Or am I going to be at it until I am diapered and bedridden in a rest home, typing away about sexy Mr. Smith in the next bed over and poor jello consistency?
I've also been trying to figure out why I do it. Because honestly, I don't care if these entries are ever read. I guess it's out of habit. And also, in an egotistical sense, to make a tiny insignificant tic mark on the ever expanding world wide web. An www address that's mine. A page of my thoughts, my ideas, my opinions. And no one can stop me from publishing them for the world to see.
Besides, all the cool kids are doing it.
